    We are deeply saddened by the recent death of Dr. Salih Neftci, who passed away on April 15, in Aubonne, Switzerland after a year-long battle with cancer. Dr. Neftci had been a senior consultant for Economatrix Research Associates, Inc. on several matters over the past 20 years. Indeed, Dr. Neftci worked with Patrick Gaughan in the late 1980s when Economatrix was first established. Dr. Neftci was a leading authority in both the fields of econometrics and financial economics. His most recent academic positions were at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, the New School for Social Research, also in New York, and the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.

     While he has written some seminal articles in macroeconomics and econometrics. He had published in many journals including the Journal of Econometrics, Econometrica, Review of Economics and Statistics, and the Journal of Political Economy.  However, in recent years he has become best known for his book ─ An Introduction to the Mathematics of Pricing Financial Derivatives. This text has became one of the leading treatises in financial engineering and is used in universities across the world. He had a brilliant mind but was also well known for his great ability to convey complex topics in simple terms. He had limitless energy and a great sense of humor. We will miss our colleague and friend.
